Master Pancake welcomes super special guests Frank Conniff and Trace Beaulieu (“The Mads” from Mystery Science Theater 3000 and the voice of Crow T. Robot) to riff one of the greatest Star Wars ripoffs ever to be based on The Magnificent Seven: BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS (1980).

A Roger Corman production, BBTS lifts the plot of Seven Samurai and The Magnificent Seven to tell the story of a young space farmer named Shad (played by John Boy Walton himself: Richard Thomas) who must gather a ragtag mercenary army to defend his home planet from the invading forces of the evil warlord Sador (John Saxon). George Peppard is the lovable scoundrel “Cowboy”, Robert Vaughn is the moody assassin Gelt, and Sybill Danning plays spirited Valkyrie warrior Saint-Exmin. BBTS also features special effects by a pre-Terminator James Cameron, a great score by Wrath of Khan’s James Horner, and a script by indie-darling John Sayles.
